1.12 Lanna Lantern
“Kome Yee Peng” or
Lanna Lantern has been produced recently in Muang Sard Luang community, Tambon
Nong Hoy, Amphoe Muang, Chiang Mai province by Mother Bualai Kanapanya. She
trained villagers to make lanterns as decorative items for houses and temples.
When people are interested in these beautiful lanterns, they start producing
them for sale. Thus, Muang Sard Luang community became the most famous source
of Lanna lantern production in the northern part of Thailand Lanterns are made
in traditional and contemporary shapes like animal and other figures, available
for general sale and custom order from local and international clients.
At present, Lanna lanterns are used to serve various purposes and
therefore are developed and adapted in order to respond to client’s needs for
proper decoration at hotel, resort, temple, government or private buildings.
The delightful creation will give the beautiful and cosy Lanna – style atmosphere.
In Lanna tradition, it is believed that lighting of the lantern will bring luck
and happiness to that person and family.
